Supply Chain Responsibility
Accell Group is one of the leading companies in the international bicycle industry. In collaboration with a number of other important parties, we have, through the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI), taken the initiative to define the international bicycle industry's chain responsibility. We strive for compliance with European legislation for the registration of chemicals (REACH) and have our own test laboratory to test the compliance of products from our suppliers.
Audit of suppliers
In 2012, together with the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI) and other leading bicycle brands, suppliers and retailers, we have taken the initiative to create a more sustainable supply chain. This approach, based on the WFSGI's code of conduct, is known as the Responsible Sport Initiative (RSI). The premise is that the bicycle industry, together with its suppliers, works on both social and environmental improvements.
Audits on chemicals
Within the Accell Group, we conduct ongoing audits of chemicals from our suppliers. These are substances that we use in the coating of components, such as the bicycle frame and fork, and substances used in plastic bicycle parts such as saddles and grips.
Our main guideline for chemicals is European regulation called REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals). We ask our suppliers to sign a REACH declaration. Based on risk assessment, we test whether existing products and newly specified products meet regulations. We do this in our own test laboratory, which we set up in 2011. We also use our own toxicological testing protocol, in which we combined relevant national legislation and REACH requirements. We immediately implement regular updates from, among others, the Candidate list SVHC (Substance of Very High Concern) into the Accell Group toxicological testing protocol.
Did you know that...?
- We ensure compliance with the European legislation REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals)? All suppliers sign a REACH declaration and we test products from suppliers in our own test laboratory.
- Annually, we are aiming to have at least 15 suppliers audited according to the Responsible Sport Initiative (RSI)?
